Designed
for your cockpit
Building
on the success of the TEAC V-1000AB-FU-matic Airborne Video Tape
Recorder (AVTR), used to record and playback the AH-64's non-standard
875-line FLIR, TEAC has now designed the high-resolution VSC-80B
video system. This system combines TEAC's V-80AB-F Hi-8mm 525-line
airborne video recorder with Merlin Engineering's precision scan
converter, producing a 60% improvement in image quality and resolution
over the existing video recording system.
Not only is the advanced VSC-80B system a 100% form,
fit and function replacement for the original V-1000 without any
modification to the AH-64 paltform, it can be installed on a wired
aircraft or moved to another aircraft in less than 15 seconds. All
the user has to do is unplug the old system and plug in the new
one
drop it in and fly. Delivered weight is approxiamately
18.5 pounds, a saving of 4-10 pounds.
Now available - Image Transmission
The VSC-80B is an updated version of our VSC-80A
which allows the user to upgrade to the AIR-RIT (Airborne Integrated
Recorder and Remote Image Transceiver). Either the VSC-80A or VSC-80B
are drop-in replacements for the V-1000AB-F.
Maximum versatility
FLIR or Day TV images from video sensors can be
captured as fast as 4 per second and viewed immediately on the cockpit
display. If desired, captured images can be selected for transmission,
cropped, deleted, or saved for later transmission. Images received
from ground stations or other aircraft can also be immediately viewed
on the on-board display and retransmitted when required. Using iamge
compression, transmission time of a quality iamge is less than 15
seconds.
The VSC-80B meets the next generation operation
needs of the AH-64
- Reliable operation in severe military environments,
including explosive
- 2 hours recording time vs. 60 minutes
- Scan-converted 525-line video recording with
high-quality video imaging
- Inexpensive and readily available Hi-8mm or 8mm
videocassettes
- Compatibility with low-cost commercial playback
equipment
- Minimum size and weight
- High reliability, maintainability and supportability
Combining the strengths of two technology leaders
Recognizing the expanding operational video requirements
of the Arny and the limitations imposed by the existing AH-64 AVTR,
the TEAC/Merlin system includes a standard 525-line V-80AB-F Hi-8mm
and a scan converter that converts the 875-line RS-343 video signal
to an RS-170 "standard" 525-line format prior to recording.
By down-scan converting an 875-line signal to 525
lines, a standard video recorder can record and reproduce the 525-line
signal at 400 TV lines of horizontal resolution that an 875-line
signal will reproduce on a videocassette recorder. Using a scan
converting system, the signal can also be converted back to the
875-line format for playback in the cockpit on existing AH-64 video
displays. Also, the videotape may be left in the 525-line format
or converted back to the 875-line format on the ground.
Environmentally sealed and MIL-qualified
The ruggedized VSC-80B is environmentally sealed
and MIL-qualified. It meets or exceeds MIL-STD-810D environmental,
salt/fog, and sand and dust requirements as well as MIL-STD-461C
EMI/RFI tests. MTBF exceeds 1,000 hours. Not only is the VSC-80B
mission-ready and environmentally proofed, it will provide the user
with the lowest possible life-cycle costs.
Guaranteed production and global logistics support
Consumer video products may change configuration
frequently or be entirely discontinued from production after only
a few short years. TEAC, however, guarantees production, configuration
control and full logistics support for the life of an avionics program.
TEAC can make this guarantee because the VSC-80B is not repackaged,
consumer video technology, but totally designed, developed and built
by TEAC. TEAC is your partner any time, anywhere in the world.
