TEAC Aerospace to Supply Digital Audio File Servers to United Airlines

New Solid State Digital Audio Reproducers are replacements for existing tape and CD Audio playback systems on Airbus 319, 320 and Boeing 737,757, 767, 777 Aircraft

Monterey Park, CA – December 13, 2007 – TEAC Aerospace Technologies announces a contract award from United Airlines for its Solid State digital audio reproducer, the AE-1600SS. The units will be installed on over 300 aircraft (Airbus 319/320 and Boeing 737,757, 767 and 777 aircraft) and will replace existing tape and CD based audio systems. The multi-million dollar contract will begin installation in early 2008. This order follows United Airlines selection of TEAC digital video reproducers which will be installed fleet wide on the same aircraft.

The AE-1600SS Audio Reproducer Unit (ARU) can replay up to 24 channel hours of stereo MP3 audio, utilizing 4 GB of Solid State memory. The units allow programmable output of 16 monaural channels or 8 stereo pairs or any mix between the two desired by the airline. Solid State memory is immune to impact or vibration and since there are no moving parts used for audio reproduction, the unit has outstanding MTBF performance. The form factor is identical to existing tape and CD Audio Reproducers allowing for a cost effective drop in replacement of the existing ARU’s.

“With double the capacity of existing ARU units, this upgrade allows United to expand the audio entertainment available to United’s mainline passengers” stated Dan Vargas, Director, IFE Programs, TEAC Aerospace Technologies. “The ease of content updating coupled with the proven high reliability performance in the field makes this a winning combination for Operations as well as Maintenance. The AE-1600SS also provides a plug and play upgrade that can be easily installed on virtually all existing distributed systems using tape reproducers.”

“TEAC is once again proud to be selected by United Airlines” stated David Husted, Chief Executive Officer, TEAC Aerospace Technologies. “Their order of TEAC Audio and Video Servers for their entire mainline fleet shows the trust and reputation in TEAC and its products in which we work hard every day to earn to prove their choice was a good one.”
